These work well in large dwellings, and to extend wifi to outbuilding (shop or garage) when you don't have ethernet wiring available. This is a high end (since you have wireless AC) powerline wifi range extender. It turns out these typically work far better than range extenders. Then someone decided they could drop a wireless access point into one end of this powerline network thing and use it to extend you wireless access to areas its needed. This turns out to be a pretty good idea for houses that did not have computer wires.
